What Is A Hair Glaze?

Shiny Brown Hair Glaze Aveda Colour | Categories:

A hair glaze is a genius treatment used by hairdressers to add a healthy shine to the hair in just 20 minutes. Infused with a conditioning blend of organic plant oils, the glaze coats the hair to offer lasting results and add an instant healthy gloss. Whether you’re looking to improve your hair’s condition or achieve that chic Hollywood shine, a hair glaze can be added to your next colour or cut service with us.

The “Glass Hair” trend

Did you know that the majority of the super-shiny hairstyles that you see all over the magazines have been achieved using a hair glaze? Adored for years by celebrities in Hollywood, the glass hair trend of reflective locks is now becoming more popular in UK salons.

The treatment is also adaptable depending on whether or not you dye your hair. You can opt for a clear gloss if you don’t want to add colour to the hair, or customise a semi-permanent colour to add a more intense shine to colour treated hair. Healthy, simple and chic, shiny hair is a trend that is not going out of fashion anytime soon.

How does a hair glaze work?

A hair glaze goes on after we’ve washed, cut and blow-dried the hair. It’s a semi-permanent, transparent treatment that works by coating the hair in a clear gloss, smoothing down the hair cuticles and boosting your hair’s natural shine. If you’re having your hair dyed, we’ll glaze your hair at the final step of your colour appointment to make your colour more vibrant and richer in depth. A hair glaze also smooths the hair by reducing frizz and flyaways. The treatment typically lasts for 24 washes, meaning that the less often you shampoo, the longer it will last.

Does a hair glaze damage hair?

Dull hair equals unhealthy hair. This can be down to a number of reasons, from using the wrong products to dryness to build-up; all of which can lead to a dulling film forming over the hair. This film prevents light from being reflected, which makes it appear dull.

Scientists at Aveda have developed a new hair glaze shine formulation to tackle dull, dry and damaged hair. Their conditioning blend of certified organic plant oils – kukui, sunflower, castor and jojoba – improve the hair’s condition to provide a long lasting, radiant shine. Unlike a gloss, a hair glaze does not contain ammonia or peroxide.

If you have dry or dehydrated hair as a result of regular blow-drying, straightening or dying, our hair glaze treatment will revive the hair by making it softer. The hair glaze coating prevents hair cuticles from tangling, which means it’s ideal for coarse, hard-to-manage hair types. And if you have coloured hair, this sought-after glossing treatment will keep the colour rich, meaning that you can leave your hair for longer in between colour treatments.

Post-treatment hair care

The secret to long-lasting shiny hair is healthy hair, so using the right hair care products following the hair glazing treatment is essential. When it comes to boosting softness and shine, we recommend using sulfate free products with naturally derived ingredients.

  1. Shampoo and conditioner

As we mentioned earlier, product buildup can contribute to dull hair. For daily care, use a clarifying sulphate-free shampoo such as Aveda’s Damage Remedy Restructuring shampoo. This gentle shampoo with quinoa protein will help repair and strengthen damaged hair from the inside out, while naturally derived conditioners help leave it feeling smooth and soft.

  1. Hair mask

Look to deep condition your hair by using a smoothing hair mask. Powered by botanicals, Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Masque reduces unwanted volume and softens the hair, while helping to seal in moisture and lock out frizz. As frizzy hair is more prone to being dull this is the perfect shine-enhancing treatment for curly or thicker hair types.

  1. Styling

Up your shine and reduce flyaways with a finishing gloss or spray. We love Aveda’s Brilliant Spray-On Shine, which not only provides a sheer mist of pure shine and vitamin E to finished hairstyles but also helps eliminate flyaways for all hair types. We also recommend the Emollient Finishing Gloss, which uses an emollient of rice bran oil to smooth ends, condition and impart extraordinary shine. It also makes medium to coarse hair types much easier to comb.

With a short process time, hair glaze treatments are quickly becoming a favourite among our guests for imparting a glossy shine. The perfect pick-me-up treatment for the holiday season, you can book your appointment with one of our friendly and highly trained team of stylists here.
