Taking care of your hair might seem like a chore at times, but it can actually save you time in the long run, and will mean you have beautiful shining locks to flaunt! Here are some of our daily hair care tips to bring out the best in your hair.

Why is Hair Care Important?

We all know that split ends and frizz from damage can give you more bad hair days than good. It can also make your hair hard to manage, which can cause frustrations when you just want to get out the door.

By having some hair care best practices to follow, your hair will not only look shiny and nourished every day, but your hair and scalp will stay healthy too. Your hair will appear to grow faster by avoiding those dreaded split ends, and you’ll be able to style your hair effortlessly.

You might think that washing your hair every day is the best way to ensure it stays healthy. However, every time you wash your hair, you are stripping it of the natural oils produced by your scalp. If you wash your hair very frequently, your hair will start to produce the oils a lot faster, which will leave your hair more greasy in the long run.

That being said, you don’t want to let grease build-up, so try to wash your hair 3-4 times a week. Your hair and scalp will thank you!

Most people use shampoo and conditioner each time they wash their hair. But do you know the correct way to use them?

Shampoo is a product that is designed to clean the oils and dirt from the hair. This means it is a lot harsher on the hair, and should therefore only be applied to the scalp area, as this is where you get the most grease.

The ends of the hair tend to be a lot more fragile, which is where conditioner comes in. Conditioner adds moisture and shine to the hair, and you should only use it on the mid-lengths and ends, as it can make your roots greasy.

Wet hair is the most susceptible to damage. Wherever possible, you’ll want to avoid brushing your hair whilst it is wet, and instead wait until it is mostly dry.

However, if you have coils or textured hair, you’ll want to brush your hair either before you rinse your conditioner out, or after you’ve washed it. You can use a hair pick or wide-toothed comb to do so.

It may be tempting to reach for the blow dryer every time you wash your hair, especially since bouncy blow-dries are in right now. If you can’t resist, then always use a heat protectant spray to avoid excessive heat damage. But if you don’t have anywhere to be, then why not let your hair dry naturally?

Did you know that using a t-shirt can actually be more effective than a towel? This is a great hair hack, as the t-shirt fabric is much more absorbent than a towel. Not only this, but the material is much softer, so it will be so gentle on your locks. Dig out an old t-shirt and give it a go yourself!

Regular pillows can cause your hair to tangle whilst you sleep, and can also make your hair greasy more quickly. However, satin or silk pillowcases will ensure your hair will be knot-free in the morning and can save you from having to wash too frequently.

Satin scrunchies and hair ties are also essential for your hair care routine. Normal hair ties can be very tough on the hair, which can cause breakage, whereas a satin scrunchie is gentle to avoid tugging and damage. You’ll also avoid those annoying kinks after wearing your hair up!

Although you can avoid frequent split ends and breakage, unfortunately, it can be hard to stop them completely. The sun’s UV rays and other environmental factors can cause damage, so the only way to save your hair can be through regular haircuts.

If you’re struggling to save your damaged hair, then Olaplex can be your saviour. You can get an initial Olaplex treatment in the salon, and then continue to use the at-home version between appointments. Your hair will be rescued in no time!

Or, another option is the Aveda Botanical Repair treatment. This also works to fix broken bonds in the hair, and can protect your hair from sun and heat damage. Learn more about this Aveda treatment here.
